Day 1 – Housebuilding

Good evening…in reading some on your posts, I realized I forgot to let you know that we did receive all our luggage.

Our day started with a wake up call at 6:00 a.m. and ready to leave for the worksite at 7:00 a.m. After a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs, refried beans, chips and canteloupe we were on the road. After a very bumpy (Diane says bumpy does not describe it…it is bumpier than that), we made it to where the cement pads of our five houses were in the village. We were greeted by many kids who were excited to meet us. We met our families and had a time to pray with them before we started construction. This was a special time that meant alot to us and them. Today we built the framework, put up sheetrock, taped & mudded, and put on stucco board (Diane and I have no idea if that is the correct name for it). Tomorrow it will be ready to stucco and another round of mudding and sanding.

Our lunches were a concern of ours before we left, but we had nothing to fear. Our lunch was rice and beans and homemade tortillas. Rick even liked them!! Tomorrow we hear it will be beans and rice. πŸ™‚

We really connected to alot of kids in the village. We were impressed with how our kids were able to communicate with them with their Spanish expertise…or lack thereof. The little kids are just adorable and are quickly becoming attached to us, as we are to them.

Our devotion time tonight was led by Dan, the missionary here. We started out with singing some of our praise songs. He challenged us to examine our hearts and the reason as individuals have been called by God to Guatemala. Through the scripture of Mark 10:46-52, we were asked to look at God’s Living Word in a way we never had before. This was an amazing time.

As we type this as, we are the only ones still up…everyone else has gone to bed and all is quiet. Our wakeup call tomorrow will be 5:30 a.m. to be on the road at 6:30 a.m.

Thank you for all your support. We loved reading your replies! Please pray for changing hearts, not only in the Guatemalans, but in our youth.

God Bless.
– Margie, Diane & Tami

P.S. We celebrated Rick’s birthday today with fabulous Lois cookies!! They were great…as always.

  1. Yay, I get the #1 spot tonight !!!! It pays to be a night owl . πŸ™‚ I have to laugh at the bumpy ride. Maybe Osky roads aren’t so bad after all . LOL. Make sure my son eats plenty of lunch tomorrow. He LOVES rice and beans. …..NOT !!!!! I know you are all continuing to make God proud…..as well as us parents back home, knowing the Christian way you have helped to shape our kids . Your impact is simply immeasurable. <3.

  2. Thanking God for this technology so we can share in your progress. Praying for you all and the people of Guatemala. God has blessed you with the spirit of giving and we at home are proud to call you family.

  3. It is a blessing to know all is going according to plan and with such success already. But then again, I am not really surprised as God has had this planned to the even the simplest detail. When I said Goodbye to Meg yesterday, I told her to go with GOD on this trip and I know you all are! So proud of you all. Thank you for sacrificing and doing all you are in the name of our Heavenly Father.

  5. I hear beans and rice are much better than rice and beans! I pray that those who get motion sick are able to cope with the bumpy ride, especially right after breakfast. Praying you have a great day at work and a wonderful time with the village kids. I love that you are able to post your progress! Keep up the good work!

  6. So thankful you and your luggage all got there!! Have a great time and know we are praying for God’s protection and guidance each moment!!

  7. I have to say that I also love the connection and look forward to the updates, they are so great to read. Glad that the beans and rice are such a big hit and I will start practicing how to make them so that Jordan can enjoy them at home too!! I hope everyone is feeling well and not having too much motion sickness while on the roads. I wish I were there to play with the little kids, that sounds like such fun. You are all in our thoughts and prayers all the time!!

  8. Wow! God is amazing!! Thank you to ALL of you who chose to follow His call to Guatemala.
Praying for you all daily and often. I hope no homesickness sets in and you each feel a peace and God’s love filling you for the tasks each day. You are all such a huge blessing to your families and friends at home, so I know you will be also to the families you serve.

  9. It is really good to hear from you. Thank you for staying up late to give us updates! We are so glad that things are going well so far. We will pray that all goes well again today and that God will guide and protect you all as you do his work today in the village. God bless!

  10. I am also so happy that you are able to update us on this site—and thank you for staying up late to inform us of what you’ve been doing. Sounds like Day 1 was successful and we hope Day 2 is just as rewarding. Take Care!

  11. I also am very grateful for this site to keep us informed and updated! Praising God for a great 1st day and praying for another God filled productive 2nd day! We serve an AWESOME God who takes care of everything for us, right down to the little details. Thank you for Margie, Diane, and Tami for staying up while everyone else went to bed to give us the details of your day. Love you all!

  12. Bless the Children ….. always the first to love πŸ™‚ Connecting with the children will be a great blessing to ward off any home sickness (something to look forward to everyday). It is hard not to be emotional as I read your posts. I know that God is doing a work of the heart in your servant hearts. Last night I was reading a devotional on Timothy…. 18 or 19 years old when he was challenged by Paul to live for Christ. Praying for greater spiritual understanding as you hear the truth of God’s word each night and interact with each other during the day. Wish I were sharing this experience with you for real. Thank you for the updates. And here’s to the Beans…… they will help you to, Sing a new song to the Lord! So eat and be happy! At least you will all be singing the same tune together πŸ™‚ Beans , Beans the magical fruit….you know the rest HA HA. I imagine the tortillas are homemade fresh daily. That should make up for any bean and rice issues πŸ™‚

Singing…. This is the day the Lord has made, I will be glad and rejoice in it! Blessings to you!

  13. Thank You for keeping us informed via blogging. I couldn’t help but think last night that even though there are several miles between us we all lay down underneath the most blessed place HEAVEN.

  14. I went to Stony Point in Reasoner yesterday…as I stood under the setting sun I thought of all of you so far away but loving and serving the same God…His creation ministered to my soul and wonderful thoughts of so many of you flooded my prayer time…God’s plans for each one of us are simply mind boggling…Praise His Name. Whether you “see” the moving of the Holy Spirit or not TRUST that He is moving and that each student is being touched, tugged, and transformed by God’s power and love. I love you and send huge HUGS through cyberspace!!

  15. CRC Team

  16. It is great to be able to connect with you this way. It helps to make us ‘back home’ feel a part of what you are doing. Sounds like many prayers are being answered already – safe travel, good food, luggage and travelers arriving at the same time and on and on it goes. Thanking God for his mercy and grace and His constant provision over you all. As I look up at the moon each night, I find it comforting to know we are gazing upon the same moon that was hung by our amazing God. Blessings to you all –

  17. Thank you so much for keeping us informed of what Team CRC’s activities and interactions are each day – especially since you are staying up to get it done while everyone else is asleep. πŸ™‚ I know we all appreciate a glimpse into what everyone is doing and how they are getting along with the Guatemalan people and kiddos. I’m sure the power of God’s love and doing his work is impacting each and every one of you. Prayers will continue – cannot wait to hear more!!

  18. Bless all of your hearts!!!! I think my sisters and I should do this as one of our “sisters trip”!!!! Thinking and praying for all of you πŸ™‚

  19. Blessing to all of you. Prayers going up to the group. I, also laughed about the part of the bumpy roads. Thanks.
